Senegal Pledges Support to Help Mali Restore Peace, Stability
(MENAFN) Senegal has expressed readiness to assist Mali in restoring peace and stability following recent attacks in the neighboring country, according to reports.
As stated by reports, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye made the remarks during a Saturday evening interview with a public broadcaster.
“The brotherly Malian people can count at all times on the active solidarity of the Senegalese people and government,” Faye said, reaffirming Senegal’s commitment to supporting Mali amid renewed security challenges.
He emphasized that the two countries share deep historical and geographical ties, adding that “what affects Mali concerns Senegal, and vice versa.”
Faye also stressed that terrorism and insecurity across Africa should be addressed collectively as continental issues. He called for stronger regional cooperation, improved intelligence sharing, and better coordination among states in the sub-region to prevent and respond to emerging crises.
As stated by reports, the comments come after coordinated attacks on April 25 targeted multiple locations in Mali, including Bamako, Kati, Gao, and Sevare, in what is described as one of the most serious escalations in recent years. Media reports also indicated that Mali’s Defense Minister Sadio Camara was killed in an attack on his residence in Kati.
